Membership
We are many who have the gift of music. We come together to create the Douglas County Children’s Chorus so we might share this gift. Knowing each member is a special and necessary part of the whole; each member makes this covenant to DCCC:
- Attend 80% of rehearsals
- Practice with tapes at home, especially if absent from rehearsal
- Attend all dress rehearsals
- Be on time as best we can
- Memorize the music with the help of rehearsal and tapes
- Focus on the music during rehearsals (keep other distractions to a minimum)
- Bring your music to rehearsal
- Be supportive of fellow members
- Ask for help when you need it
- Support the directors
- Share your gifts to facilitate performances
Attendance: Young people are usually very busy people with many activities making up their weekly schedule, not to mention school. We understand this, and we do not want to create an impossible 100% attendance policy, which we believe most children would not be able to achieve successfully. However, we are a choir, which depends on all of its voices, and we want to teach the vital importance of dedication, practice, and team work.We also want every child to feel successful and confident when performing.Because of this, we expect our members to do their very best to adhere to the published schedule, and to notify the Communications Director at least 1 week in advance of any planned absences. DCCC expects a minimum of 80% attendance for rehearsals, and 100% attendance for performances. We also expect the Chorus members to practice frequently with their practice tapes at home, preferably once a week, and definitely at least once in a week if they miss a rehearsal.Anyone unable to meet this requirement for a season (8-10 weeks) is encouraged to volunteer their time to other DCCC activities for the concert such as assisting with publicity, ticket sales, refreshments, etc.
Dress Rehearsals: Dress rehearsals are usually held during the Monday rehearsal before a performance. Promptness is essential, so plan to arrive early! These rehearsals will either be on stage at Rock Canyon High School, or at the concert location. If you must miss a dress rehearsal, please get approval from the Director.
Performance Wardrobe: For concerts, the traditional colors are blue and white.Boys wear white oxford long sleeve shirts with navy pants and black shoes (we will supply their ties before the concert); women wear blue dresses (to be fitted and handed out by the Program Director), and black shoes. The girls’ hose should be nude and the guys’ socks should be black. “Casual” appearances sometimes require khaki slacks and hoodies to be ordered at the beginning of the season.
PLEASE don’t wear perfumes at concerts! Some members are allergic to various scents. Jewelry may be worn as long as it is not distracting to the audience.
Ticket Sales: Ticket Sales represent a significant source of the Choruses annual revenues and go toward covering costs in the general budget.Tuition and fees alone are not sufficient to pay the costs of maintaining chorus operations and the staff and board of DCCC wishes to thank you for your continued support. Ticket prices for the 2008/2009 season are generally $6 per adult and $10 for a family. Music Folders: All copies of music remain the property of Douglas County Children’s Chorus. All Chorus members need a 1” 3-ring black binder to keep your music in.Please use only pencil to mark in your music!
Photos & Recordings: The Chorus does photograph and record various concerts for publicity, marketing, etc. Release forms form all members are needed before the first concert.
Media Relations: The DCCC Director of Communications will invite members of the media to performances and concerts, as well as supply them with information prior to concerts. Do NOT contact the media on behalf of DCCC. Please contact our director of public relations with your comments. We would love to have your ideas as we would like to continue to do more of this.
